Bio

Mr Vijay Santhanam is a highly experienced Consultant Oral, Maxillofacial and Facial Plastic Surgeon, with extensive expertise in facial trauma, corrective jaw surgery and advanced reconstructive procedures. Dually qualified in medicine and dentistry, he delivers precise, patient-centred care that restores both function and confidence.

Background

Mr Santhanam trained in oral and maxillofacial surgery in the UK and internationally, gaining experience in India, Austria, and the United States. He has been instrumental in introducing innovative 3D and virtual surgical planning (VSP) for treating complex facial and jaw conditions.

Alongside his clinical work, he plays a key role in surgical education and training. He has served on national training boards with the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and the Specialist Advisory Committee for Higher Surgical Training in Maxillofacial Surgery, and is a research advisor with the University of Cambridge Department of Physiology, Development and Neuroscience. He lectures and runs masterclasses nationally and internationally.

Beyond his NHS and private practice, Mr Santhanam is deeply committed to global health and humanitarian work. Through Cambridge Global Health Partnerships (CGHP), supported by Addenbrooke’s Charitable Trust (ACT), he has led surgical missions to Botswana, India, and Jordan, treating patients with severe facial trauma and disfigurement caused by war, disease, and injury.

His approach is centred on compassion, clarity, and respect. He takes time to understand each patient’s goals and concerns, ensuring that every stage of treatment is clear, informed, and tailored to individual needs.
