Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Pre-assessment Nurse to support safe surgical outcomes by conducting comprehensive pre-operative assessments and preparing patients for procedures. This role is central to ensuring patients are clinically optimised, well-informed and supported throughout their surgical journey.

Working closely with surgeons, anaesthetists and multidisciplinary teams, you will assess risk, coordinate care plans and provide reassurance to patients and their families in a modern private hospital environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver high standards of patient-focused care in line with hospital policies and procedures
  • Conduct comprehensive pre-operative assessments for surgical patients
  • Review medical histories, medications and potential risks or complications
  • Perform diagnostic tests and screenings, including blood tests, ECGs and spirometry
  • Provide clear explanations of procedures and pre-operative instructions
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop individualised care plans
  • Ensure accurate and compliant clinical documentation
  • Offer emotional support and reassurance to patients and families
  • Participate in audits and quality improvement initiatives
  • Maintain infection control, health and safety and clinical governance standards

  • Maintain clinical competence and professional accountability
  • Demonstrate commitment to continuous professional development

Role Details

  • Contract: Full-time or Part-time
  • Location: The Hamptons Hospital, Cygnet Road, Hampton, Peterborough, PE7 8FD
  • Salary: Up to £38,000 per year
  • Work Pattern: On-site

Requirements

  • Registered Nurse qualification with valid NMC registration
  • Strong clinical assessment and diagnostic skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to explain complex medical information clearly
  • Proficiency in electronic health records and healthcare IT systems
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to prioritise tasks in a fast-paced environment

Experience

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in a pre-assessment role (preferred)
