What is Laparoscopy?
Laparoscopy is a minimally invasive (keyhole) surgery procedure. The surgeon uses a special scope which is a small tube with a light source and camera. It allows images of the inside of the abdomen to be viewed on a monitor screen, during the operation. Laparoscopic surgery is often a day case procedure.
There can be advantages compared to traditional open surgery such as a shorter hospital stay, fast recovery time, less pain and bleeding and a smaller incision scar.
